Short version: this site is built to know as little about you as possible. No accounts, no logins, and nothing you type into a guide, a tool, or the search box ever leaves your browser. The only thing you can voluntarily submit is an email address, for the newsletter.

The site is free to read and is paid for by advertising. That is the one place where a third party is involved, so it gets its own section below — in plain terms, an advertising network fills the boxes marked “Advertisement” and can see the same basic request data any website you visit can see. It never receives anything you enter into our tools, because our tools never send anything anywhere.

What we collect

  • Nothing you type into guides or tools. Site search, the eligibility checker, the relief calculator, and the PAS-1 checklist all run entirely in your browser; nothing entered is transmitted to us or anyone else, and it disappears when you leave the page.
  • Standard server logs. Like virtually every website, our hosting infrastructure records basic request data (IP address, user agent, requested URL, timestamp) for security and reliability. Logs are used only for operating the site and are not used to build profiles.
  • Local preferences. Your theme choice (light/dark) and “was this helpful” votes are stored in your own browser’s localStorage. They never leave your device and you can clear them anytime via your browser settings.

Newsletter

Joining the newsletter is voluntary and requires only an email address. The signup form submits your address directly to our external newsletter provider (or, if no provider is configured, opens an email from you to us) — we do not run a mailing server and do not store subscriber lists on this site. Your address is used only to send the updates you asked for; every email includes one-click unsubscribe, and we never sell, rent, or share the list. Unsubscribing removes you at the provider level.

Advertising

Advertising is how this site stays free, and every unit is labelled “Advertisement” so you can tell paid placement from our guidance. Ads are served by Adsterra, a third-party advertising network. Each ad is rendered inside an isolated frame, which means:

  • What the network can see: the standard information any site you visit receives — IP address, browser and device type, and the page the ad appeared on. Adsterra and its advertising partners may also set their own cookies or use similar identifiers to limit repeat ads and measure performance. Those cookies are set by them, under their privacy policy, not by us.
  • What it can never see: anything you enter into our eligibility checker, relief calculator, PAS-1 checklist, or site search. Those run entirely in your browser and transmit nothing, so there is nothing for an advertiser to collect. The same is true of your newsletter address, which goes only to our newsletter provider.
  • Editorial independence:advertisers have no input into what we publish, no advance sight of it, and no way to influence a guide’s conclusions. Ad placement is fixed by template — below the answer, never inside it. See our editorial policy.

You can opt out of personalised advertising industry-wide at YourAdChoices or Your Online Choices, and any content blocker will stop the units loading entirely — the guides work exactly the same either way.

Analytics

We use Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights to count page views and measure loading performance. Both are cookie-free: they store nothing on your device, assign no persistent identifier, and report only aggregate figures (which pages are read, how fast they loaded). We cannot identify an individual reader from them, and no data is sold or shared.

Cookies

We set no cookies of our own— no analytics cookies, no session cookies, no logins. The only cookies that may appear come from the advertising network described above. Your theme choice and “was this helpful” votes use your browser’s localStorage instead, which stays on your device.

Email

If you email us via the contact page, we use your address only to reply. We ask you not to send personal information (Social Security numbers, application details); if you do, we delete it. We never sell or share contact information.

Third-party links

Guides link to official government sites (nj.gov and federal resources). Their privacy practices are their own; state application portals in particular have their own identity-verification processes governed by state policy. Advertisements link to destinations chosen by the advertising network, not by us — treat them as you would any other ad on the web, and never enter personal or financial details in response to one claiming to be a New Jersey benefit program. See our guide to relief scams.

Children

The site is general-audience informational content about tax programs and does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children under 13.
