Stay NJ Income Limit Cut from $500,000 to $200,000 for the 2025 Tax Year
The FY2027 Appropriations Act, signed June 30, 2026, cut the Stay NJ income limit for the 2025 tax year from $500,000 to $200,000 and replaced the flat maximum benefit with income tiers: $6,500 up to $100,000, $5,000 to $150,000, and $4,000 to $200,000. Above $200,000 the benefit is $0.
The 2024 tax year is unchanged — a $500,000 limit and a flat $6,500 maximum. Both sets of rules are in force at once, so check which year you are asking about.
The PAS-1 booklet issued in February 2026 still shows $500,000 for 2025, because the change came after it was printed. The New Jersey Division of Taxation has not published guidance on how the new limit applies to applicants who filed before June 30, 2026.
